HELPFUL TIP:

Settings should always be chosen with care. Consider the emotion you want your viewpoint character to feel and how setting choices, weather elements, and symbolism might build a specific mood in the scene, create tension and conflict, or even raise the stakes.
SIGHTS:
Narrow metal lockers with air slits
A plain beige tile floor with mildew-darkened grout
An entrance to showers with thin cloth privacy curtains
Gouts of steam circling the roof above the showers
A bin for dirty towels
Long wooden or metal benches
Duffle bags and backpacks sitting on the floor as students get dressed
Shoelaces poking out of closed lockers
A wall of mirrors and sinks
Toilet stalls (and urinals in the boys' locker room)
Pools of gummy pink liquid beneath the soap dispensers
Stringy hair caught in shower drains
Clumps of dirt, grass, tissues, and power bar wrappers littering the floor
Empty lockers with doors yawning open
Scuffed gym equipment and dirty sports paraphernalia (padding, jerseys, jock straps, shoes, etc.)
A forgotten comb on the counter or shirt on the bench
Empty hair product cans and bottles left near the sink
A trashcan
